Live in the Moment

We don't have fall here in Bermuda. Right now it's about 82 degrees, sunny and humid. I miss fall. That was one of my favorite parts about living in Canada. Watching the leaves slowly turn from green to gold to orange and then to vibrant red. Feeling the nip in the air as summer went on it's way and we ushered in a season of apples, pumpkins and first fires.
I suppose I could spend a lot of time just moaning about the heat and the lack of seasonal change here, and I do, but honestly, wouldn't it be nice to just live in the moment? To simply appreciate the things in front of me and quit wishing for the things I don't have? Sigh.
It sounds so easy, doesn't it?
If you've ever gone through the trial of waiting, you know exactly where I am right now.
I haven't started chewing my fingernails because...well, that just grosses me out. But I'm jumpy. I'm snarky. If you say hi, I'm probably going to ask you why you're talking to me.
I do not do this well.
Live in the moment.
Yeah. I'm not enjoying my moment.
So I'm trying to come up with ways to do that.
Blogging is one way. I get to share my frustrations with people who understand or at the very least, empathize. Writing is another way. I started working on a new story. I'm excited about that.
I can pray, but I have a feeling God's getting a little sick of hearing the same thing over and over.
If it wasn't so hot, I'd spend time in my garden.
As most of you know, Bermuda had a visit from Hurricane Igor a few weeks ago. Thankfully the storm was only a Category 1 by the time it reached us, but unfortunately my garden got the brunt of it. What was a beautiful display of green leaves and colorful flowers is now a brown mess.
Disheartening, right? Well, yes, when I first got home from my trip and surveyed the damage, it was.
But now, in amongst the dead brown leaves, small green shoots have appeared. Leaves are growing. Some bushes already look as though nothing ever happened to them.
I had to stop and think when I saw that.
Do you ever feel like you're in that place? Brown, dirty and half dead?
What if you let God clean you up?
It's a pretty cool analogy and one that makes me smile.
I've been cleaned up. I've had all the dead leaves stripped away and seen new growth that has made me beautiful once more.
It's a comfort to know that even in the times where I don't feel anything is happening, times when I want to give up and say forget it, this just isn't going to work out, God is working.
I don't have to pray a million prayers to tell Him how I'm feeling.
He knows.
And as I live in the moment, painful as it may be, He is right there too, waiting for just that perfect time, when I least expect it, to show me His plan.
If you are so inclined, would you pray for me today? And let me know how I can pray for you.
Let's get on with living.

Hi Cathy! I'm thrilled to have met you this year - and even more thrilled your awareness of people beside you in elevators is sharper than mine!
Prayers for a REALLY REALLY QUICK - SUPER FAST answer to the call of your heart. All that... and the patience to wait on His perfect timing.
Blessings and hugs
Dorothy :)

My dream is to once day live in such a place! But I can defiantly sympathies with your thoughts and feeling. Being able to see the colorations between what is going on around you and look for the lessons or messages that God is placing before us is so very important!

Blessings

Catherine, Thanks for visiting my blog. I would like to share a story with you about an unexpected floral gift; actually it is the first story that I ever had published by Chicken Soup. I envy you living in Bermuda.

What a wonderful paradise you live in!!! I miss fall but have never really had it to begin with. Our fall in L.A. isn't chilly until November.

I'm really enjoying the season change this year. Like you said, I need to live in the moment, and not fret about how soon the Oklahoma wind will blow the beautiful leaves off of the branches. :)
