Going After The Dream

You always hear the saying "Chasing the Dream," right? I don't really like that. I get a vision of a dog chasing it's tail, or running after a car it has no hope of ever catching up to. No, going after something makes much more sense to me. You know what you want. You go after it. And you get it.
It's a stronger visual. Not to say it always happens quickly. Sometimes getting what you want takes a while.
Don't we know it.
However, if we have deemed that dream worth going after, we do it. Even if it means going after it again, and again. And again.
I have bragging rights this morning, and not for myself. I'll be doing enough of that over the next few months - well, is generating publicity bragging? That's probably a topic for another post!
Last night my seventeen year-old son Chris had his first 'gig'.
Chris has gone through many career choices in his young life. At first he wanted to play basketball. Then soccer. Then baseball. I think he may have wanted to be a fireman at one point. But then he decided he wanted to be an actor. Okay. We could see that. He has a stage presence, was snagging lead roles shortly after entering the world of drama, and he had that certain something that those in the industry refer to as 'it'.
But Chris also loves music. He plays a mean acoustic guitar and has a voice that makes one want to stop everything and listen. He has 'it'.
Chris made a choice last summer, and decided that music is his first love, and that's what he would go after.
And he is.
Were you going after your dreams at seventeen? Did you even know what you wanted to do with the rest of your life? I sure didn't.
My daughter is the same, at almost twenty-one, she knows she wants to be a photographer.
And she's going after it. Amazing.
Life would have been so much easier I think, had I known at that age what is was I wanted.
However, I doubt I would have learned the lessons God had planned for me.
But I'm so proud of my two kids and all they have already accomplished as they go after their dream.
If you want to learn more about them, please check out Sarah's Blog and Chris' music page on Facebook. I think you'll be inspired!
What dream are you going after?

Your children sound so talented! It's great they have a dream and they're pursuing it with all their hearts.

My dream is writing and has been since high school--before even. I started pursuing publication (I was very naive, though) before I even turned 20. It's been a long journey and I am so thankful it's taken this long. Truly. It's helped me realize what I love to write and helped me grow as a person and a writer.

beautiful post. Congrats to your children who are pursuing their God-giftings.

My dream is writing as well. I've always loved to scratch down my thoughts, and now that I'm a stay-at-home mom I've been taking it more seriously. I have so much to learn about publication though...I feel like I'm just scratching the surface:)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and blessing me with your comment.

I love this post, Cathy! Your children sound like they have their minds, as well as their hearts, involved in pursuing their passions. Good for them!!

I'm so blessed to have found writing, b/c I finally am doing something I have a passion for, whether I make a living at it or not.

Thanks, Cindy! Yes, they are talented and it is a joy to watch them mature into fine young adults! Interesting that you knew you wanted to be a writer so young. I guess in the back of my mind I did too, I just didn't know how to go about it!

Melanie - you will get there! Keep following the dream!

Heather - yay for finding your passion! I know you love it, I could tell by your mile wide grin the whole time at conference!!

Thanks, T.Anne! Keep me posted on that news! Praying it's good!

What a strong and touching post! We can learn so much from your kids, and I wish them both the best.

It took me until my early twenties to realize my passion and path lie in writing. But I'm going after it, like you said, the way your son and daughter are theirs. We have to grasp it and hold tight, don't you think?

Best with your endeavors, Catherine! Thanks for visiting my blog. It's really nice to connect. :)
