I've never claimed to be the most organized person in the world. I try, but thwart most plans I make to fit my life into neat little categories of time. Must do this at 10 am just doesn't work for me. Unless of course it's a fixed appointment, like a visit to the doctor or a call to my agent. When I'm expected somewhere, I do my best to be on time. Don't always succeed, but I don't like to keep people waiting.
But when I'm at home, I fritter. Do you like that word? I do. That is, until about five seconds ago, when I looked it up.
fritter - to waste time, money or energy on trifling matters.
Ouch. So who asked you anyways, Websters?
All right, I confess. I do fritter. I waste an enormous amount of time. Every. Single. Day.
I do. Facebook. Twitter. Playing with Dog. Reading When I Should Be Writing. Searching New Apps for my IPad. That's just the beginning of my list. Shall I go on?
Nope, I shan't.
Well, we're approaching a new year. And I have a book coming out. At the rate I'm going, I'm actually having nightmares that it might be the only one I ever write.
Something must be done about the frittering.
I'm going to attempt to join the masses of organized people out there (don't worry, I'll still laugh at you behind your back), and try to make my life a little more manageable.
I've decided to start with this blog.
In the past, you see, I'd jump on and post hither and there, nary a thought to what I was actually saying or whether anyone would ever read it. Which might have been fine when I had five followers. But now that I have 101 followers - you crazy people you - I'm going to attempt to be a little less...um...flaky.
I shall post my incredible words of wisdom here on this blog on Mondays and Wednesdays - be it about writing, raising kids and orchids or cleaning dog vomit off the carpet (Please curb your enthusiasm), and on Fridays we'll do a sort of open mike deal. Maybe some Fridays I'll ask a question. Maybe I'll post a book review (Hey, I hear there's this great book coming out in March called Yesterday's Tomorrow), or tell you about a movie I've seen. Or we can talk food, travel, whatever. It'll be fun. Right?
Cool.
So. Today is Friday.
And since I'm really tired after all this organizing nonsense, I'm going to let you pick.
What do YOU want to talk about today?
Oh, okay. That's not really being organized enough, is it?
I'll make a list.
Today your choice of discussion topics are:
A movie you recently saw - did you hate it or love it?
The last book you read.
Your hopes and dreams for the coming year.
How's that?
My answers are :-
Movie - downloaded The Kids Are Alright. Um. Yeah. Didn't know what it was about.
Now I wish I didn't know, but I do, and I'm afraid I'm still walking around with my mouth hanging open in shock. I deleted that puppy pdq and regret paying money for it. If I'd wanted to watch a porno movie...okay...yeah, you get the idea. I won't say anymore since I like to keep my blog G-rated and I've probably gone beyond that already.
Book - I usually read several books at a time. I recently finished Tender Graces by Kathryn Magendie. Great book!! I'm currently reading Snow Day (Billy Coffey), Almost Heaven (Chris Fabry), The Distant Hours (Kate Morton) and Plug Your Book: Online Marketing for Authors (Steve Weber). By the way, I just downloaded Dr. Richard Mabry's Code Blue - it's free on Kindle right now, go get it!!
My hopes and dreams for the coming year? Well, I hope you'll all buy my book, read it and fall in love with it, and recommend it to everyone you know. And I dream of world peace.
Happy Weekend Everyone!

Last book I read was The Help. Awesome blossom. Right now I'm reading Watch over Me by Christa Parrish. Another awesome blossom.
Way to go, Ms. Organized!
Last movie was Couples' Retreat. PG-13. It completely supported marriage - rare today! Loved it! Laughed and laughed!
Last book I read? I'm trying to take the kids through Harry Potter and since they're all under 6 it's hard to keep their attention - I ended up just rereading it. For the love. That and Eight Silly Monkeys. whew!
Goal/dreams for the next year? I want to finish four more books, and of course sell them lol. I want this economy to turn around so we have a chance at World Peace, I want to be a better mother and wife. I want to read the scriptures better and do more service.
Can I have a bigger list of "I wants"?
Great post, Cathy!
A movie you recently saw - did you hate it or love it?
The last movie we watched was Karate Kid, the new one with Jackie Can and Jaden Smith. Being a huge movie hound I really wanted to like this movie but in my opinion if did not hold a candle to the original. I also very much disproved of the notion of a twelve year old boy and a twelve year old girl beginning a romantic relationship. It was all very innocent but there was a scene where they share a brief kiss and I thought it was not very appropriate for children that were so very young. It just speaks to the general flavor of the culture that everything is acceptable and the concept of young children in elementary school having boyfriend and girlfriend is normal sent me over the edge.
The last book you read.
I finished the Francine Rivers Mark of the Lion Series a few weeks ago. Amazing in a word. Loved the rich story she wove about the first generation Christians back in the time when professing your faith had very real and dangerous repercussions. Compelling story teller and I simply could not put the books down. Highly recommend this series and anything written by Francine Rivers.
Your hopes and dreams for the coming year.
I will avoid being a cliché and say weight loss but that is what I am shooting for. As the hubs and I approach retirement I am becoming more and more conscious about the state of our health and we have a big desire to be healthy and active retirees and we need to make some slight changes in life style to begin to adopt a more active approach to physical activity.
Opps was I only supposed to pick on question……
Have a great weekend!
Blessings
R
Okay, I love that word. I fritter, too.
Movie: I watched Eat, Pray, Love yesterday. Hmmm. It wasn't awesome for me.
I'm currently reading On That Day Everybody Ate, a book about a woman's journey to Haiti and what she continues to do to help people there.
My hopes and dreams: To keep writing.
Cathy, I wish you well on your goal of managing your writing life more effectively. Many of the debut authors I've interviewed on my blog have mentioned that the transition from wanna-be to gonna-be published can be a bit daunting, but I feel certain you'll do well. Why? Because you have to become more productive, sure, but more important, because you want to.
I look forward to your updates. I predict progress.
I definitely fritter, too--and there are times when I think I'm not so organized on my blog. It will be great to have extra posts the closer it gets to your book coming out. Get more traffic so they can hear all about it :)
I have lots of hopes and dreams for next year, including being agented and published but mostly I'm just trying to organize my goals and move forward at a realistic place.
That's a great idea! I used to blog five days a week but it become too much for me with all the other social media I love to do. I cut down to four days and was amazed at how much easier it made life!
Okay, I'm a fritterer too. Must do something about that. Good luck with your new blog schedule. And with your book release! How exciting.
I had a feeling I wasn't the only 'fritterer' out there! It sounds like we're all reading some great books too. I read more than I watch movies. It's hard to find good ones out there to spend money on. I usually wait until dvds are out and just download them from Apple TV, which was the best investment we've made in a long time!
And after spouting off this morning, I DID actually get some writing done. Now I'm frittering again...
:0)
Last book I read, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks! Please read this book it was awesome!!! And movie? It was a Christmas show last night, How Rudolph saved New Year. In the theatre we saw Megamind and believe it or not, it was cute!
I fritter even when given instruction *laughing* ..la la la teeee dahhhh!
I'll just say how EXCITED I am to see Voyage of the Dawn Treader tonight, even though that's not technically the answer to the question.
And your dog vomit posts might have some relevance for me. :-)
Guilty too! Love the word fritter. LOL If I could only get organized, lots of things would get done around here. :)
Last movie I saw was "The A-Team" Shocked me, but I really liked it. LOL Great post by the way!
I am the king of frittering. Although I never called it that before. Now I will!
I have never heard that term before, but I LOVE it! Hi, my name is Melanie, and I'm a fritterer.... :)
have a great weekend!
Melanie
