Don't Look Down!

I pondered what to write about today, the day before my 'official' release date of Yesterday's Tomorrow. I thought I'd post on how nervous I was, anticipating the big day, wondering how it would go...but I've been preempted.
One thing I'm learning about the publishing world is that nothing is ever set in stone.
I received an email from a friend on Saturday: "Hey, did you know your book is up on Amazon?"
Uh, no. NO! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's pretty much how it went.
And it's been non-stop since that moment when I stared at the title of MY book, with MY name on it, for the very first time. I wondered what would happen next.

It didn't take long for the word to get out, and the first reviews started popping up. Some I had seen before, a couple I hadn't. I'm actually still in shock.
This is happening.

Funny thing is, I still haven't held the dang book in my hand!! The joys of living on an island I suppose. I know there is a box of books with my name on them somewhere between New Jersey and Bermuda. I'm hoping they get here like today.

So what comes next in this journey? Well, it's going to be a crazy week. All sorts of blog appearances and reviews are scheduled to go up the next month. We're also in the midst of helping our kids figure out their summer plans, a lot of which hinges on where son is accepted at university in September. There is LOTS going on, and my head is spinning with it all. My daughter and her friend Jaclyn come home on Friday to celebrate with us as we host the private launch party Friday night, which is going to be awesome! But there is so much to do between now and then...
Hence the title of this post - Don't Look Down. I know if I stop and take a breath, and really think about all this, I'm going to collapse into a quivering ball and hide under the covers. Because, really, as exciting as it is, it's also terrifying.

I'm an introvert by nature. I'm not the kind of person to barge into a room and shout, "I'm here! Look at me! Your world is now complete!" It's really difficult for me to tweet and blog and facebook all the cool stuff that's going on. I'm always thinking people are smacking their foreheads and going, "Oh, please, would she just shut up about that book already!"
Outside of all that, I really am enjoying this. You should see the stupid grin on my face. No, really.

So there you have it, friends. All that to say I really, really appreciate all the support and interest you've all shown, and I'm counting on you to help me to the top of this mountain!
If you read the book and plan to post a review, please do let me know so I can link to your post.
If you have already done so, thank you! I know it's on Amazon, Barnes and Noble
(search with ISBN: 978-1-60290-278-7), and I have put it on GoodReads and Shelfari. I imagine it will be popping up on other sites soon. I'd love to see pics of readers with their copy - other authors have done this and it's really neat to look at the pics, so send me one when you get it!
And as always, I love to hear from my friends and readers, so please share your thoughts on the book with me when you have read it.

Are you doing anything right now that scares you? Let's talk!

So excited for you Cathy! Can't believe how fast Oak Tara got your book out! The cover is beautiful. And from what I've seen of the reviews, so is the story!

The appearance of your book on Amazon before the release date is just one of those little surprises you'll experience. The next one may just barely make it under the wire for the official date. Welcome to the world of publishing.
So glad your persistence has paid off. Can't wait to see and read the book myself. Best wishes.
(Oh, and the word verification for my comment is "level"--which is the way you need to keep your head. Don't look down.)

I'm sooo happy for you, Cathy! I hope your Release Day is awesome and that the excitement far exceeds any anxiety you're feeling. Have fun at your launch party. How cool that your daughter will be there for it.

Thanks everyone! It's hard not to get obsessive about it all, so I guess that is one area I will struggle to overcome, but I'll allow a little obsession for the next day or so! LOL!!

Congratulations on your book release! I've been thinking about you as your release day was getting closer! I know it's crazy-busy, but enjoy this huge moment as much as you can!

As one fellow introvert to another, don't worry about what comes next. Enjoy the moment. There can't be anything sweeter than the release of a first book so you're entitled to wander around with a happy grin and explain why when people ask. :)
